At the Board of Directors meeting of Western National Mutual Insurance Company held on June 10, 2008, Leon Smith was promoted to Chief Financial Officer and Kevin J. Christy, ACAS, was promoted to Vice President - Chief Actuary.
Leon Smith has been with the company 11 years, most recently serving as Treasurer, and is responsible for all accounting functions, in addition to premium billing and investment activities. Previously he spent 25 years with American Hardware and 3 years with Motorists Mutual in various and progressively more responsible accounting roles.
Kevin received his Bachelor's in Business Administration in Actuarial Science & Risk Management from the University of Wisconsin - Madison. After starting his insurance career at Capitol Indemnity, he joined Western National in 1999 as an Actuarial Assistant. Since then, and while earning his ACAS, Kevin has served as the Manager of the Research and Development Department for all Western National companies. With this promotion, he will retain the ratemaking and policy form duties of his current position, as well as his duties in reserving and reinsurance. In addition, he will assume management responsibility for the Marketing side of Sales & Marketing, reporting to Executive Vice President - Underwriting & Marketing, David Eide.
"We are very pleased to recognize Leon for the strategic role he has filled for us, in addition to his general accounting role, over the last few years," said President & CEO, Stu Henderson.
