Western National Mutual Insurance Company Names John Kapanke to Board of Directors
Minneapolis based Western National Mutual Insurance Company announced that John G. Kapanke joined its board of directors effective Aug. 16, 2004.
Mr. Kapanke is a graduate (with Honors) of the University of Wisconsin-LaCrosse, and received his Honorary Doctor of Humane Letters from Newberry College. He has over 30 years of financial and investment experience. For the last 17 years, he has served as President and CEO of the Board of Pensions of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA), a $5.5 billion non-profit administering pension, health, disability and survivor benefits for nearly 50,000 ELCA pastors, rostered lay persons, lay employees and their families. Prior to assuming this role, he served as Senior Vice President - Investments for 14 years at the Board of Pensions of the Lutheran Church in America. He is also the Chairman of the Church Alliance (a coalition of chief executive officers of 32 pension and welfare funds which monitors federal and state regulatory activities affecting church employee benefit programs); and the Chairman of the Endowment Fund of Mount Olivet Lutheran Church in Minneapolis.
