Western National Mutual Insurance Company Names Richard T. Murphy, Jr. to Board of Directors
Minneapolis based Western National Mutual Insurance Company announced that Richard T. Murphy, Jr. has joined its board of directors effective November 1, 2005.
A graduate of the University of Minnesota, Institute of Technology, Mr. Murphy earned a bachelor degree in both Landscape Architecture and Environmental Design. He earned his Masters in Landscape Architecture at the Harvard Graduate School of Design and his MBA at the Carlson School of Management. His educational experience has continued by way of his teaching efforts over the last 24 years, starting as a teaching assistant at Harvard, continuing at the Design Studio of the State University of New York (SUNY) at Syracuse, and culminating in his most recently receiving the "Distinguished Teaching Award" from the University of Minnesota's College of Architecture and Landscape Architecture where he serves as an Adjunct Professor. He is a licensed Landscape Architect and a member of the American Society of Landscape Architects.
Mr. Murphy is the President and CEO of the Murphy Companies, a collaboration of five firms based in the Twin Cities. The Murphy Companies focus on both real estate development and on supply chain, logistics and transportation services for domestic and international clients. Mr. Murphy is the fourth generation of business leaders in the Murphy Companies, which were formed in 1904. The firm is ISO 9001 certified and became an OSHA MnSHARP Certified company in 2003. Public service commitments include his involvement with the University of Minnesota's Center for Transportation Studies (Chairman of the Executive Committee), the International Warehouse Logistics Association (Board member), the University of Minnesota's College of Architecture and Landscape Architecture (Advisory Board member), and the Council of Supply Chain Management Professionals (2nd Vice President).
